Recently I came across a fun little meme. By commenting, I received a letter of the alphabet for which to list ten things I love in my life that begin with that letter.

1. Brownstones...Mr. Brownstone, Tornado, and Twister ~ these are the people I love best!
2. Big Cheese and JayBird...My parents are amazing!
   
3. Brat Pack...It's great to have siblings that are also your friends!
   
4. Best Friends...I have been blessed beyond measure!
5. Brethren...Our church home is awesome!
6. Barbecue...If this wasn't on the list, then I wouldn't be a true Southerner!
7. Bargains...I am NOT a full-price shopper ~ not even for groceries!
8. Books...Reading is one of the greatest adventures!
   
9. Blog Comments...I'd be lying if I said I didn't love 'em!
   
10. Bible...Last typed on the list but not last in my life by any means ~ this is the most important part of my day!

BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE LETTER "J"

I got tagged two months (and three days) ago by my friend Allan (Sorry it took so long, Allan!), who also happens to be one really amazing preacher! You should definitely check out his blog when you get a chance. You'll be blessed by what you find.

To start things off right, I made up a little poem to share with you because everything is more fun when it rhymes!

From A to Z and Z to A
There's always a lot that we can say
So here are twenty-six letters combined in a way
To answer the twenty-six questions I've been asked today.

I'll never cease to wonder how it can be
That the great moments that define the world's history
And the answers to questions about you and me
Can be summed up so simply from A to Z.

A. Attached or Single? Attached...to Mr. Brownstone, of course! Not only is he super fun to look at and super fun to be around, he is a great leader for our family, a great husband, and a great dad. He also gives me the status of "XBOX Wife".

B. Best Friend? Mr. Brownstone has been my very best friend since our first date way back in the 1900's. And if you're one to say "Husbands, siblings, and parents don't count!"...then I have seven or eight girlfriends that are just the best ever!

C. Cake or Pie? Pie ~ chocolate, strawberry, key lime, apple, cherry, coconut, pink lemonade, peach... You get a taste for what I'm saying, right? Though, I do have to say that any form of cheesecake could give pie a good run for the money.

D. Day of Choice? Sunday! I really love Sundays. We spend a lot of family time on that day, and we also get to worship our Amazing Lord and Savior at a church that we love with friends that we love!

E. Essential Item? How about itemS!?!? It may seem a cliche, but I have to have a toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss. I also have a purse-sized plaque-remover!

F. Flavor of Ice Cream? That is like asking me to choose a favorite book! Ice Cream, Frozen Custard, Frozen Yogurt, Gelato...all perfection in a dessert. My favorite flavor would probably be Peanut Butter and Chocolate!

G. Gummy Bears or Worms? Dare I say it...worms!!! I like the sugary coating. I did used to love to stick those gummy bears to my shirt, though, back when it was all the rage between Izod and Polo.

H. Hometown? Our Town :) It was a great little town.

I. Indulgences? I get a Route 44 Diet Coke with easy ice, regular cherry syrup, vanilla, and real cherries almost every day during Sonic Happy Hour!

J. January or July? Can I say "Juluary"? I do not like to be hot. I also do not like to be cold. July poses a problem because it is so incredibly hot here, which makes the air conditioner run non-stop, so it's either hot or cold in the house...never just comfortable! And as for January...it is sometimes a letdown because all of the Christmas decorations are taken down and put away, and everyone has either gone home, gone back to work, or gone back to school. Though I love winter and most things about it, January seems like a lonely month to me. To answer the question...the kids are out of school and home all day in July, and we usually take a fun vacation, so the nod goes to July!

K. Kids? Yes...my finest achievements ~ Tornado and Twister!

L. Last Movie I Saw In A Theater? "Space Chimps". I'm not really sure what more to say about that...

M. Middle Name? Jill

N. Number of Siblings? Three ~ Thing Two, Thing Three, and Thing Four

O. Oranges or Apples? Oranges, especially little Clementine oranges. I do love the green apple, though. And as far as flavorings ~ like gum, slushies, etc. ~ green apple would far surpass orange. Actual fruit seems to be the question here, however, so I stick with oranges as my final answer.

P. Phobia or Fear? Phobia. I have a major shark phobia. Realistically, I know that it borders on being ridiculous to get panicked if I'm the only one in the swimming pool, but there it is. I "phobia" the shark. Big time. (You can see how far this phobia reaches by my use of the word "borders". Somehow I've convinced myself that it is only mildly ridiculous. Who am I kidding? It's ridiculous! That's a phobia for ya!)

Q. Quote? I am particularly partial to Bible verses, but I don't really think of Scripture as a quote, even though it sort of is ~ I think of Scripture more as "the inspired word of God" and a quote as something for which anyone could be credited if they have something worth saying, or even sometimes saying something that isn't worth saying! There are so many Bible verses that I love, but here are three quotes that I really like quite a lot:

• "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless." ~ Mother Theresa
• "The kindest word in all the world is the unkind word, unsaid." ~ Author Unknown
• "To listen closely and reply well is the highest perfection we are able to attain in the art of conversation." ~ Francois de La Rochefouca

R. Reason to Smile? I could give you a million and one ~ Mr. Brownstone, Tornado, Twister, my family, Mr. Brownstone's family, our friends, our church, and that's just the people. That's not even mentioning all of the other blessings in life. But my reason to smile? I'm saved. In all of my imperfection, Jesus saw fit to save even me.

S. Season? If you've read this blog, then you already know the answer to this one! I love FALL, y'all! The cool, crisp air...the smells...the changing colors...the alternate name "autumn"...all of it.

T. Tag Four More? YOU'RE IT!!! I'm tagging everyone that is reading this who wants to play along but am also specifically tagging some relatively newcomers to this blog...Allyson at Oury Family, Tracy at The Redheaded Warriors, Sharon at Reservoir, and Kipi at In My Own Little Corner.... They are newcomers in the sense that I've only blogged about "Ten Things Tuesday" since April, so they haven't been tagged by me yet. Since summer is almost over, blogging will pick up the pace a bit. (Be sure and link back to me!)

U. Unknown Fact About Me? I am very shy. Being in a room full of people is extremely uncomfortable for me, even if I know all of them! A very small group (like 2-3 people) or a very large crowd (like an arena, or a church service) doesn't bother me as much, but a party or a classroom setting... Yikes!!! Being around 5 people up to 75 or so makes my stomach flutter with nerves every single time. I try to just put a smile on my face and get over it. Most people that know about these feelings are surprised, so maybe the smile is working! :)

V. Vegetarian or Oppressor of Animals? I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan... Technically, Mr. Brownstone brings home the bacon, and I fry it in the microwave. Either way, I'm an oppressor.

W. Worst Habit? I am ~ believe it or not ~ a gum-swallower. I KNOW!!! It's yucky and gross and juvenile. You should also know that I didn't develop this habit until adulthood. I don't mean when I turned 18...or even in college...or even when I got married. This began when I was a grown-up!!! That means after I became a mom. So yes, I tell my kids "Don't swallow your gum; it's not good for you..." and then smile as mine goes down the hatch without so much as a second thought. Needless to say, I do not buy gum very often.

X. X-Rays or Ultra-Sounds? Would anyone answer X-Rays? I have to go with Ultra-Sounds. It was so precious to see our sweet babies before they entered this world!

Y. Your Favorite Food? One that starts with a letter of the alphabet. Just kidding. In all seriousness, there are very few foods that I do not enjoy (liver, beets, and I can't bring myself ~ even as an animal oppressor ~ to try cow tongue or weird stuff like that), so it's hard to pick a favorite. I really, really, really love fresh corn-on-the-cob, however, with butter and salt. Even as I type that, though, it feels like I'm cheating on nectarines, Tex-Mex, and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.

Z. Zodiac? Sagittarius ~ Though not into astrology or signs of the zodiac, I found this and thought it was pretty funny. "On the upside, you are optimistic. On the downside, you are blindly optimistic."

PARTY GIRL!

I love to plan parties! If I had known in college that it was an actual job for which you can be hired, then "Bash By Brownstone" would be a swinging operation! Though I believe that doors to job opportunities never completely close, things do change when you have children. For the moment, it is totally satisfying to create awesome parties for Tornado and Twister...and anyone else that will allow me to have input for their parties! The planning, the decorating, the coordinating, the partying...I love all of it!

PARTY GIRL!

"TWO-FER" FOR TUESDAY!

I was recently tagged...twice! Being able to make a great little word play for the title inspired me to answer both tags in one post.

Of course, it wasn't hard for me because I generally have "a lot of ideas ~ extraordinary ideas" for that matter. With my "unique brilliance" and "sharp-mindedness" combined with "determination" and "high abilities", I know that my "forward thinking" must be so "difficult for you to fathom". I just have that special gift of "thinking differently from others".

Oh, yes...I am THAT GOOD, people.
But...the other shoe always has to drop...right?

I'm going to be "brave" here, and share with you what I'm wearing on that other foot...
Do not give this "homely" girl any props. I "hardly become angry unless provoked", but I simply "do not appreciate praises". Beware if you want to offer me a compliment because my reaction might be "unpredictable". "I'm really not able to control my emotions" (which tend to be "deep, just like my love"), and I can be a bit "stubborn and hard hearted". This personality flaw makes me "uncertain in relationships", but that's OK because I really "love to be alone", which works well for someone who is "secretive". Watch out, though, because secretive or not, I really "know how to dig out YOUR secrets". I can be "inquisitive" like that. I have an "if there is a will, there is a way" kind of attitude. I'm "patient, determined, and I never give up" ~ "always thinking, always motivating myself" to get to the bottom of YOU. After all, I do have a "fine and strong clairvoyance".

HOWEVER...
You really shouldn't fear because being true to the nature of a "romantic", I'm "trustworthy, honest, and a great secret-keeper". This is probably because I'm "generous", and I'm also a "less talkative" sort of girl, even though some might say that I'm "dynamic in personality, amiable, and even high-spirited".

And for the record...
I may be "homely", but I'm also "hardworking" and "well-built and tough".
Just like a Ford truck.

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF TWO BABES AND A BABE

Ten days ago, Jayne at The Clock Is Ticking tagged me for the "Seven Random Things" meme. I think memes can be fun because they tell you a lot about the person. However...before "meeting" Jayne, I had already participated in this same meme; and currently, I am working on a "100 Things About Me" list to honor the 100th post tradition. (Don't hold your breath, though ~ it is much harder than you'd think. It might take all year to complete!) Considering these two facts, it might be just a bit redundant for me to list seven random things about myself. Trust me, I am not that interesting! (Even though y'all are all secretly wondering how on earth I met Billy Idol!)

To keep things interesting, I went to the ones that know and love me best. I asked Tornado, Twister, and Mr. Brownstone to make a random list of random things about me. Of course, one or two items receive a quick and definitive VETO...by me. There are still some things a girl has to keep secret!

A LITTLE ME...ME!

It's been a looooong week in the Brownstone household, so I am foregoing what I had planned for my Fifth Edition of Thursday Thirteen, and giving a loud shout out to Dette at Dance of Motherhood for this great Thursday Thirteen idea! She did it last week, and it was awesome! And as far as my great plans for this week? You'll just have to wait until next week!

Thirteen Things About Me...In The Moment!

1. I AM...very, very tired today! Tornado and Twister have both been sick and have not sleeping at night!
2. I WANT...two things ~ 1) for my babies to feel better, and 2) a new washer and dryer. OK, technically that's three things. Or is it four if I'm hoping that both of my kids feel better soon?
   
3. I HAVE...wonderful ladies at my church that are amazing spiritual mentors, as well as mentors for everyday life.
4. I WISH...that everyone who visited my blog would comment!!! :) Comments are fun to give and to get!
   
5. I HATE...living on a budget! But at the same time...I'm so glad we do it.
   
6. I FEAR...that I will never catch up on our laundry!
   
7. I REGRET...not finding out about blogging sooner!! It's a fantastic stress relief.
8. I LOVE...Mr. Brownstone! (<3 sigh!) I am so blessed to have such an incredible husband. I should tell him that more often than I do... I love my kids, too! They are bring me so much joy!
   
9. I ALWAYS...make a list each day of ten things for which I'm thankful! (Check my Tuesday blog entries, and join me!)
10. I AM NOT...loving the squirrels that have demolished our house trim.
    
11. I DANCE...to make my kids laugh, but I totally rock at Dance Dance Revolution. Go figure!

Last week was a really great week! The kids were home for Spring Break, and we had so much fun!

I am always so thankful when we get to spend truly quality time together without having to worry about homework, extra-curricular activities, dinner, baths, and bedtime...only to repeat the process the following day.

When they are home and free to "just be", I am continually reminded of their creativity, their energy, their wisdom, and their wit! In honor of the little jokesters, I give you my fourth edition of Thursday Thirteen!

I recently read somewhere that an estimated 30 - 40 million people in America suffer from "Dental Phobia". They are so afraid of going to the dentist, they do not seek any form of dental care at all. EVER! There is a LOT of stinky breath out there if 30 - 40 million people are not even getting their teeth cleaned during the year!

I am one of those people that does not suffer from "Dental Phobia". In fact, I'm not even a little bit scared! And that is inspiration enough for my Second Edition of Thursday Thirteen!

Thirteen Things I Love About Going To The Dentist!

1. It's not like the doctor's office. You can usually read the magazines without worrying about catching the flu!
2. The receptionists are always super sweet because they secretly feel sorry for you.
3. You get to sit in a really cool chair with lots of buttons and levers with which to experiment when the dentist steps out of the room!
4. They lay all of the instruments out on a tray in front of you, and you have lots of time to imagine that for which they are used.
5. They can make pretty pink polka dots on your pearly whites with those little plaque-finder tablets.
6. The funny feeling you get in your stomach feels like riding a roller coaster ~ only you don't have to wait in a long line.
7. They have lots of things like movies goggles and cool music to divert your attention from when the dentist says things like "This won't hurt a bit...", "Now you might feel a little pressure...", "Open wide, please...wider, wider..."!
8. Nobody thinks you're a sissy if you get teary-eyed.
9. It's perfectly legal to request "happy gas"!
10. You get to drink from a tiny cup, and then spit in public without being ostracized.
11. You can slobber and sound like your drunk, but it's still safe to drive home.
12. It's fun to run your tongue over freshly cleaned teeth and say, "Mmm!"
13. He's my dad!!! And that's the reason I love most of all!

Now...I need someone to give me a new reason for #13 because the only dentist I have ever been to in my whole life is about to retire! Yikes!!! I could quickly become #40,000,001 if there isn't another great reason!

Welcome to my very first Thursday Thirteen!!!
I must admit that it was a lot harder to think of a topic than I had originally thought. Well, actually...it was easy to think of topics but not always easy to think of THIRTEEN things to go in them! I thought of so many topics (some for which I should ~ and DO ~ have a list of thirteen) and then would draw a complete and total blank after listing only six or seven things. That particular fact finally made my Thursday Thirteen topic very easy to choose. I now give you...



Thirteen Topics For Which I Could Not Think Of Thirteen Things! famous people that I have met television shows I love to watch favorite scents delicious ice cream flavors clothing items I need to permanently remove from my closet places I want to visit things I have never eaten but want to try movie stars with whom I think I'd be real life friends things that drive me nuts degrees that would have been interesting to earn movies that really impacted me names I considered for my alter ego committees with which I've been involved

I don't know if that makes me boring (or just temporarily absent-minded) for not being able to think of thirteen things for any of these topics, but maybe ~ just maybe ~ I'll make thirteen lucky next time!

SURFER GIRL

One week ago today, I was doing what I like to call "blog-surfing", where I click on blogs from other people's sidebars! (I like to use the term "surfing" in my everyday life because for those of you that know me...you know that this is the closest I will ever get to actually surfing, as I am deathly afraid of the Shark!) In the process of skimming across the swells and currents of the blogosphere, dipping my fingers in the deep ocean of words without care, I eventually carved my way through to a blog that had an interesting little meme.

The author began by informing her readers that she could not remember from which blog she had ripped off the meme, as she, too, had been visiting blogs one day. She then tagged those reading the meme, which obviously included yours truly, to copy it from her and put it on our respective blogs. After all the "fades", and "stalls", and "pumping" on my key-"board, I cannot remember exactly how I found her but do remember from whom I ripped off this little meme...by invitation, of course! Thanks to Susan at Not That Girl...This Girl for sharing her "currents" and for providing me with a quick and easy topic about which to blog!

Current Book(s): Now, don't laugh! It's called Nory Ryan's Song by Patricia Reilly Giff. Yes...it is a "Young Readers" book. Yes...I realize I will finish it in about an hour and a half ~ at the most ~ if I sit down and focus on it. And yes...it was a Christmas gift from one of my children. It was purchased with Tornado's very own money from the clearance rack at the Scholastic Book Fair at school. You know that you would read it, too!

Current Play List: In my car, there is currently a whole set of children's song CD's because I am trying to learn some new songs to teach my preschool music classes. Don't you dare ever tell me I'm boring!

Current Shame-Inducing Guilty Pleasure: OK, this one is definitely shame-inducing! I currently watch "Make Me A Supermodel" on Bravo. I think I'll just keep my mouth shut about this one, so as not to draw further attention to the fact!

Current Color: Is "jeans" a color? If so, that is the color that I currently wear...Every. Day. However, my current favorite color(s) to wear with the jeans are "jewel tones" ~ purple, green, pink, and blue. I don't have a lot of any one particular color, so I can't choose only one color to be a favorite!

Current Passion: My one and only ~ Mr. Brownstone, of course!

Current Drink: If you know me at all, then you could skip reading this answer...a Route 44 Diet Coke with easy ice from Sonic. Is there any other? The lady in this video doesn't seem to think so!!!

Current Food: Hmmm! For breakfast, I really like vanilla yogurt mixed with Post Healthy Classics Trail Mix Crunch cereal. It's a great way to start the day! For lunch, I am always game for Chipotle. The Steak Burrito Bol with everything is divine! For snacking, I really like Archer Farms Pomegranate Fruit Bars and also Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop Kettle Korn! For dinner, I love home-cooking, but we haven't been doing a lot of it in the Brownstone residence the past couple of months.

Current Wish List: This is a BIG one...new flooring!

Current Needs: THIS is a BIG one...new flooring!!

Current Triumph(s): I just $AVED a whole lot of money!!! And it was not by switching my car insurance to Geico!

Current Bane(s) of my Existence: The Super Bowl game that IS STILL on our DVR, taking up 4.5 valuable hours of recording space! I love Mr. Brownstone, but come on...seriously!???!!? The New York Giants win. Who doesn't know that yet?

Current Indulgence: I'd say Sonic, but I think (especially if you really know me) that we all know that has gone way past indulgence. My last spur-of-the-moment indulgence was a whole bag of Munchos. If you have not ever tried Munchos for yourself, then you are missing out, my friends! You know that if there is a Munchos entry on Wikipedia then they must be good!

Current #1 Blessing: I think all blessings are #1!!! However...I am very thankful and consider it a huge blessing that so far my kids have stayed well this season! Saying a little prayer now that we will continue to be blessed in this way!

Current Slang or Saying: "Oh, My Word!" According to Tornado and Twister, this also seems to be the current slang or saying of all my closest friends.

Current Outfit: Today I am wearing jeans and my "Peace, Love, Mom" cozy thermal shirt. I love it so much, I might wear it tomorrow, too!

Current Excitement: Thing 4 and Thing 12 are about to have a baby!

Current Mood: Happy!!!
